James, You didn't say "how long you would be in London"? <BR> If you haven't been there...with your name....I would say the first easy trip would be to Edinburgh!It is a magnificent city! I was there&lt; in London&gt;a month ago. I went to Edinburgh on the train and stayed in the Roxborough Hotel.Even if you go for an overnight...you will love it!It's a couple of hours on the train. <BR> Greenwich is a boat trip down the Thames.Bath is a train trip. Salisbury and Stonehenge can be a bus tour.Salisbury over Canterbury.

James, A rider to Nancy's tip - trains are chaotic at the moment, and probably will be subject to major delays for some time (a major rail crash has highlighted deficiencies in track maintenance, which has got the company responsible busy locking the stable door). Edinburgh will take at least an hour longer than normal, unless you fly.

Take a trip to Oxford and consider renting a car and driving around the countryside - head for Great Tew a type of "lost" village and find a local bed and breakfast. A side of England many tourits miss.

James, <BR> <BR>I grew up in Canterbury and would say that it is definitely worth a visit. It's quite small but there is a wealth of history and all packed into a small area so you can get a lot done in a short space of time. The oldest school in the country (founded by St Augustine who brought Christianity to England) is within the cathedral grounds - it was founded in 597. There are also some beautiful villages surrounding Canterbury and Sandwich, about 30 miles away is another ancient town worth a visit. <BR> <BR>It would also be worth stopping off at Leeds Castle on the way - known as the "..most beautiful castle in the world.." Unfortunately November isn't the best time to visit anywhere in England! <BR> <BR>Sorry I can't comment on Salisbury, but I understand that it's beatiful too (so I'm not totally biased!)
