I would just do it yourself. Take a train to Barcelona and wander the city. It is glorious and well worth it.

Americaine....is it an easy train ride from Barcelona to Avignon? I have trouble with the SCNF site, when it is between two different countries. About how long is the train trip and does it require a change of trains? Thank you.

Marthag-

I took an overnight train from Paris to Barcelona as well as one from Barcelona to Toulon (between Marseille and Nice) in 2000. Each time we had to switch at the border (at Cerebere once and Port Bou the other time.

If you are buying a Eurail pass, a book with example and approximate (subject to change) times should be included and give you a good idea.

I agree that it is difficult to search for times on the sncf website. But I did find a few things... One search I found AVIGNON-BARCELONA leaving at 9am and arriving at 6pm, with two stops: Narbonne & Port Bou. However, another search resulted in a 6am depature and Noon arrival with only a change in Montpelier.

I hope this helps or draws in more feedback for you. HAPPY TRAVELS!
