SICILY WW2 SITES

We will be exploring Sicily with 13yr WW2 buff. Are there any museums, monuments, landing beaches or sites we can see.
Is there a WW2 " expert" who could walk us through some important locations??
Any other input appreciated.

I haven't yet visited Sicily, but am in the early stages of planning a trip to look at some of the Second World War sites.

As my interest is in the Canadian Army in Sicily, their sites might not be of particular interest to you. There are three Commonwealth War Graves cemeteries at Catania, Syracuse and Agira. The landing beach of the Canadian First Division is at Pachino.

The U.S. Sicily-Rome cemetery and memorial is not in Sicily, but at Nettuno, near Anzio just south of Rome. I'm not aware of any major U.S. memorials in Sicily, but I haven't really looked into them.

To learn more about the Sicily Campaign, I would recommend you try Carlo D'Este "Bitter Victory: the Battle for Sicily, 1943". That will likely point out sites which you might want to visit.

laverendye - We went to Italy last June and did WW2 sites. Please do not miss Paestum, south of Salerno, and Latina 1/2 hr from anzio/nettuno. Latina has a museum of WW2 artifacts and dioramas of battles with several bldgs of equipment left by all participants. Save a full day for that one. We also did Monte Cassino & Rome.
