Loved reading your TR to the end, and I can say that 2 or so years ago, we never saw any hippies in Ortigya. Come to that we never saw any in Toulouse.

<<I'm playing with the idea of Calabria (my paternal family are Calabrese, and I've been lucky enough to explore Basilicata where my maternal family is from {Matera}) and then ferry to Taormina, perhaps an island, and/or the Madonie Mountains and Cefalu with flight out of Palermo. I'm entertaining these ideas because we loved Sicily so much. >>

Sounds like a fab trip.

So you teased us last week by saying you hope to add some pictures after your husband finishes editing them. I hope you do post them. I love looking at the places we have been through the photographic eye of other travelers.

john183, I don't think he's done, but I did pick some out. I will post them soon. I'm not sure how to do it, but I'm sure there are instructions here on the site. I don't mean to tease. Life gets away from me.

I know exactly what you mean about life getting away. We just had a great grand daughter born Wednesday, I'm retiring two weeks from today and we have a family trip to the beach in North Carolina, a Rhine River cruise and a trip to Bermuda all in the next 3 months. I really enjoyed your report and I look forward to seeing your pictures whenever you get them posted.

FYI: Just returned from a week in Ortigia and no "hippies" were ever seen. I don't mind them at all but thought I would let you know. Nice report! We spent over three weeks there, loved the whole island and will return.

HappyTrvlr: we are still shaking our heads at that one. Long dreads, patchouli and other smells, bare feet, tie dye, lace up sandals. We were gobsmacked. I personally love hippies, but it was a surprise to see so many all over Ortigia that weekend. One would have thought that there was a Dead or a Fish or a Rusted Root concert somewhere nearby.
