Hi! I am just trying to get an idea how much bus tickets cost on Sicily. For instance, approximately how much is a ticket from Palermo to Trapani or Palermo to Cefalu? I would like to know if we should rent a car or just stick with the bus. My sister and I will be there for 4 days.

Train to Cefalu is about $5 and takes just under an hour. To Trapani it's 3 hrs and about $15, a bus would shave an hour off the time (it makes fewer stops) but is probably about $75.

Terravision buses from Palermo City (Viale Lazio 117) to Trapani (airport) take 90 minutes, cost 11 Euros, and leave at 06:15, 07:45, 11:45, 13:30, 14:45, 16:15, and 17:45. www.terravision.eu

Segesta Autolinee buses from Palermo (Viale Piccioti near hospital Bucceri La Ferla, corner Via Salvatore Ceppello) and other stops to Trapani take about two hours or less, depending where you board in Palermo and where you get off in Trapani. Can't recommend taking the train since none goes all the way.

Trains from Palermo (Centrale) to Trapani involve first a bus to Castelvetrano (way south...) that takes four hours, then the slow regional train from there to Trapani takes another hour and a bit. About 11 Euros.

Or train from Imperatore Federico (in the northern suburbs of Palermo) involves first a bus to to Piraineto (between Palermo city and the airport) then a train - takes forever.

rome2rio.com is a great website, isn't it? But mostly as a starting point -- it isn't always correct. :-(

I just googled "trasporti Palermo Trapani" and then trenitalia.it for the trains of course, but I'll have to look at that rome2rio site some other time.

@ michelhuebeli: I'm sure the info you provided was more accurate. rome2rio is, IME, a great way to get an idea of options (e.g., are there trains or buses), times required for various methods, and costs. And it has links to transportation websites. But it's best used, IMO, as a starting point. It sometimes misses things or misrepresents them.
