Sicily - public transport from Palermo or Trapani to Taormina
We will be getting a ferry from Sardinia to either Trapani or Palermo (in Sept). I am having difficulty finding info about buses or trains to get to Taormina. I would appreciate help please.

The ferry is run by Tirrenia (www.tirrenia.it). The Cagliari-Palermo sailing is overnight, arriving at 0930 on Saturdays. The Cagliari-Trapani sailing is in the daytime, arriving at 2000 on Sunday, so you'd need to stay overnight in Trapani.
There are railways from Trapani and Palermo. The nearest station to Taormina is Taormina-Giardini. Train times are on www.bahn.de or www.trenitalia.com but try a date in the next week as schedules will not be available for September. It will take about eight hours from Trapani or five from Palermo.
The journey may be quicker by bus. That is certainly the case between Trapani and Palermo. From Palermo, there are intercity trains to Messina where you change for Taormina-Giardini.
Taormina-Giardini station is below the town so you need a local bus or taxi. Buses from Catania or Messina go directly to the town of Taormina.
