Sicily or Sardinia??
 

Hello Fdoor friends,

I am in the throws of organizing an Italian Vacation in June.

If you had to choose a 4-5 days which one would you choose and why, or where is your favourite holiday beachside/ seaside escape?
There are so many incredible and beautiful places to see…look forward to hearing your thoughts.

I would not go to either island for 4 days. But if pressed, I'd go to Palermo for the entire time; easier to fly in and out and do a day trip or two, maybe.
Where is the rest of the stay?

Where will you be coming from at the start?

What are your interests?
Will you rent a car?

Have you looked at any guidebooks so far?

Sicily for culture, Sardinia for beaches.
Airports:
Sicily:Catania, Palermo, Trapani, Comiso, Reggio di Calabria
Sardinia: Cagliari, Olbia, Alghero

Is your main motivation for this part of the trip to relax and enjoy some beach time? In which case fly into Olbia, rent a car and maximise your time by visiting beaches like Cala Brandinchi, La Cinta di San Teodoro for example.

Or sun, sea and some culture - in which case Sicily - as mentioned above - Palermo (Mondello Beach) or Trapani/Erice/San Vito lo Capo

I certainly wouldn’t try to visit Sicily with just 4 or 5 days, particularly if your goal is some beach time. Sicily is not known for its beaches, although it has some. It’s known for Greek, Roman, Byzantine, Norman, and Baroque sites, along with natural wonders, and easily merits close to 3 weeks just to see the highlights.

But I’m confused – are you trying to find a place for some beach time in the trip about which you’ve already posted several times? If so, I would suggest that Nice or somewhere else along the French Riviera would work much better with the places you’ve been considering. The beaches there aren’t necessarily sandy (though some are); they’re more likely to be pebbly. But they would provide an opportunity to relax on a shore in an area with lots of other interesting things to do.

Your plans appear to be very much in flux, which is understandable. Please note that it would help us respond if you provide information about how a stop might fit in with your plans. For example, if you've decided to limit your trip to Italy, please say so!

No mistake! The posters on this forum are, indeed, travelers who are "responding and giving their tips and experiences." I don't know what you mean by "trip advisor help," nor do I know what I said that caused you to question the nature of the forum. Sorry for the confusion! My point was that we could potentially be MORE helpful if we could place your request in context.

After reading up a lot on the Amalfi coast, which I’m still deciding on and have narrowed down to Prainano for 2-3 days, before heading to Sardina.. I’m now wondering if the Bari, Monopoli.
Polignano Amore region would be less hectic and more of an authentic experience?
I have read so many saying it’s completely overthrown in summer times with overcrowded tourists? Amalfi Coast that is but also I have never been there & the coastline is stunning. Love your thoughts on this. ☺️👋

Those towns you mention in Puglia are now swamped with tourists. I'm not saying they are not worth visiting but Puglia is the "new" place to go in Italy. When we were in Matera September 2023 we met Ann Australian couple who had planned a few days in Polignano and left after one day cause they thought it was so crowded, no space on the beach, etc........ That was mid-late September. I don't know myself but just passing that on..
