Sicily last week February / first week March
Hello fellow travellers, we have the unexpected opportunity to spend two weeks in Southern Europe during the last week of February / first week of March. I realize of course that around this time of year Spain and the Canary Isles in general offer more sun and higher temperatures but this time we are thinking of southern Italy. Do any of you have travel experience in Sicily or other Southern Italian destinations around this time of year? Recommendations are most welcome.

There will be spring in Sicily and almost everyting in the nature will bve green. But what are you interested in?

If I wanted warmth I would go to the Canaries, being part of Africa is very different from being part of Europe.
I've been to Sicily in Feb and had to walk through snow on mountain tops. Sicily is certainly more interesting that the Canaries. Spain mainland should be pleasant on the coast. I might avoid Madrid But who knows now we have Climate Change |
Hello Neckervd and Bibloburgler, my husband and I live in Northern Europe so for us it's a lot easier to find a last minute destination, certainly during the low season. We've had a very busy Fall and Winter and are just looking for some R&R.
As we both are not very interested in beach holidays we hope to find a destination where we can combine some sunny (not hot) weather with culture (I have taken Italian language- and culture courses for years) and of course good food. Slow travel in order to slow down to a more relaxed pace. Over the years we have often travelled in Italy but never much further South than Rome. We are thinking of Sicily but perhaps the last week of February / first week of March are just a bit too early in the season. |
