Sicily day trips from Taormina
 

I will be in Taormina, Sicily in April for 5 days and have 3 free days. Wondering if anyone can tell me if a day trip to Lipari (not interested in overnight) is feasible. Other than that, are there other day trips easy to take with public transportation without spending all day on a bus. I have read many of the recommendations herein and am trying to nail down what we can really do. Thanks for your help. Nancy [email protected]

We took a daytrip from Taormina to Lipari last July. We had a car and left Taormina around 8:30 and arrived in Milazzo about 9:15. A boat for Lipari was about to leave but we wanted to be on the 10 am boat anyway. Unfortunately, that boat ran into problems and another boat didn't leave until noon. We took it, arriving in Lipari about 1 and had a great lunch at Fillipino. After that, we saw the fortress and museums and churches but didn't get to go to a beach as we originally intended. Had we been on that 9:15 or 10 am boat, that would have been possible. Took a boat back about 5, but that is because we wanted to have dinner in Messina. You can take a later boat and still get back to Taormina in time for a late dinner. This schedule works if you have a car but may not if you are relying on public transportation.
