Sicily - beaches/good places to swim?

Are there good beaches on Sicily/places to swim in the sea? I love the beaches along the Amalfi Coast and the South of France, and wondered if Sicily is similar (that is, small beaches, but clear water). Would also like to receive recommendations for informal beachside lunch dining establishments. Thank you.

There are many good beaches all over Sicily. Perhaps if you indicate geographical areas of interest, we might be able to give specific recommendations.

Our favorite is Cefalu.

I've wondering about your question too, and as I went searching on the net I found this page with pictures of some beaches: www.welcometosicily.com/italian_beaches.htm

Good evening, Rebecca
Recall that the beaches in Mondello,
Gela, Syracuse and Cefalu were nice
sand. Recall the ones at Taormina
were pebble which is very common around
Sicily. Might be others that have not
seen... Richard of LaGrange Park, Il..

Stay clear of Gela. It is a very unattractive town with lots of poverty.

Hi, I'm Sicilian and I can tell you that in Sicily there are nice beaches, but are not the best...
I like a lot: San Vito lo Capo, the south-eastern coast (from Vendicari to Capo Passero) and all beaches from Agrigento to Selinunte: here the water is not so clear, but the sand is very nice.
