I am planning a trip to Sicily the beginning of April 2023...looking for hotels, markets, festivals, etc during this time frame. Any help would be sincerely appreciated.

What is your itinerary?

We will be arriving from the USA via a flight either from Rome or Milan. Our thought was to potentially rent a car and traverse the country. While we may go into a few museums/churches, we are more interested in experiencing the local scene...particularly the open air markets. As to hotels: $100-$200...is this reasonable for a nice hotel (AC would be most appreciated)? We are also interested in possibly taking a cooking course. I know of one given at Butera 28 in Palermo. Your thoughts would be appreciated. M

I'd recommend the Palermo markets, very local. I'm going to assume you will land at Palermo (there are other airports) I'd catch the bus into town (you don't want a car in central Palermo and spend a couple of days using the city buses to get around.

Then pick up a hire car and go to visit some other places in the west of the Island

or take the Pulman (coach) or Train to Catania and enjoy the markets there (again not a car friendly city)

The southern area has more smaller towns that might satisfy you but the markets are smaller too. You probably will need a car there but you could do it by Pulman.
