Shuttle from Rome
I have friends who have saved up for a Mediterranean Cruise that leaves from Civitavecchia - which is about 1 1/2 hours from Rome. They got a quote for $70 per person to take the shuttle from Rome to there and there are FOUR of them. Does anyone know of a more economical way for a family of four to make the 1 1/2 hour trip?

Plenty of trains from Roma Termini to Civitavecchia for €4.10 per adult if you don't mind twelve stops en route and an hour and a bit on the train. Then there may be a bus, I don't know, but even a taxi won't break the bank.
Check www.trenitalia.it WK |
There are also many limousine services that will do Civitavecchia-Rome transfers.
Two that I would check out: www.limoservicerome.com www.romeshuttlelimousine.com http://www.utenti.lycos.it/romecabs/ |
If you are just beginning a cruise, each of you probably has 2 pieces of luggage plus a carry on. May not be too convenient for the train, although the most ecomonical.
The shuttles Eloise linked to are probably your best bet. ((b)) |
Our Hotel near the airport in Rome transported the four of us to the cruise ship for 130 euro. Unforunately I had prebooked Rome Limo Services before we left home for our return from the ship to the airport, gave them a credit card number for confirmation, they picked us up OK but out original "discounted" quote was for 179 euro. Upon our return home I discovered I had been charged 237 euros - at least this was the amount I had debited to my credit card. I contacted them by email a week ago for a "please explain" and have heard nothing back. You can probably get a taxi back to the airport and avoid the limo service which by the way is not a limo but a people mover!!! Have fun SK

RomelimoserviceS (with an S) gets many complaints here; romelimoservice (without the S) gets very good reviews.
