Shuttle from milan malpensa
Hello All. We are visiting Argegno on Lake Como in May and my partner Colin does not want to take the train and bus like we did in 2015 when we visited there. I thought a shuttle from Milan Malpensa airport would be the easiest (not the cheapest) but there are so many to choose from and all the reviews have a couple of horrible stories. We will spend a couple of nights in Como Town before flying out to Greece so our return journey to Malpensa will be a shorter one. Any ideas of a good tried and tested company that will not bankrupt two South African oldies??

I've never used a shuttle from Como, so I can't make a recommendation. But we have taken the train from Como to Saronno to catch the Malpensa Express train. It's easy. The connection in Saronno is short and only involves changing platforms. It takes about an hour and costs about 10 euros. If you'd like to see the details, search train timetables "from Lago Nord Lago" and "to Malpensa Aeroporto [probably Terminal 1]".....

There are also direct trains from Malpensa airport to Como San Giovanni railway station. They run every 2 hrs only, whereas the connection via Saronno works more or less every 30 minutes.
Count 1 1/2 hrs in both cases. |
I've taken the trains Jean describes- very very easy and cheap and takes you right to Como's boat docks (Como Nord station)
But there are direct Malpensa-Como buses that can be very cheap: https://www.busradar.com/coach/como/...a-airport-mxp/ |

Thanks for the help but I was specifically looking for a private taxi transfer as my partner said he would rather pay a bit extra and avoid the hassle. (He is now 84) We have travelled all over Europe by train for 15 years but I think the lifting of cases on and off trains and rushing to make a connection has just got a bit much for him.
I have looked at all the alternatives but the times are not good. That new train that goes to Como St Giovanni station leaves shortly after we arrive and the next one is in two hours. The same goes for the bus - We arrive at 14.20 and the next available bus to Como is 16.25. We will then have to take the ferry to Argegno and who knows how long we will have to wait for that? I believe the new timetables will be out in March. Many thanks for the suggestions. By the way PalenQ we spent two great days in Volendam last year. I created quite a debate as to which would be the better place to stay close to Amsterdam before our cruise. We enjoyed the village very much in spite of the crowds. Was very easy to catch the bus from, and back to, Amsterdam from behind the Central station. |
It may not make a difference, but the trains from Malpensa to both Saronno and onward to Como Nord Lago each have entry doors level with the platforms, like a subway train. So, you just roll your luggage aboard with no lifting. At Saronno, you do have to change platforms, and the last time we did this it did involve stairs. Perhaps someone with recent experience could report whether this has changed.
I hope you find what works for you. You could always take a taxi. |
Buses between Como and Arcegno are frequent. But I would rather take a taxi for that leg.
