Shuttle from CDG to Paris
 

Has anyone used this shuttle service? 44 euros for 2 people, or a private car from airport to hotel for 98 euros.

I've gone the RER & metro route before, but we'll be coming from SF to London, then shuttle to Luton, short hop flight to CDG, and then have to get into Paris. The RER is easy, but to our hotel in the 7th (Ecole Militaire) we'd have to change to the #4 metro line at Gare du Nord, and then transfer to the #8 line at Strasburg Saint-Denis.

All those transfers makes a shuttle bus or private car seem worth the money! Any feedback on this or other shuttle services would be appreciated.

I just noticed that Roissybus goes from CDG to Opera, and the Opera station is on our #8 line. Hmmm, 9.20 euros (8.2 for bus + 1 euro metro w/ carnet) each sounds like a good price!

Is Roissybus easy & reilable? Even though we'll be cream crackered (knackered) this might be do-able.

The Roissybus is the official airport shuttle service. It is reliable.

I took the Air France bus @$14eu, a little pricey- you do not have to be an Air France passenger-- from CDG to Gard de Lyon, and then a taxi to my little hotel in 13th e for 6eu. On the way ome, I took the Roissybus from Opera to CDG. I caught the 2nd bus at 5:45 a.m.. It was 8eu-- a good buy and the bus stops were well-marked.

Note: the drivers do NOT assist with bags. The comfortable bus has wide aisles to facilitate the luggage. Our bus took only 30 minutes. Because of the early hour, I had to take a taxi to L'Opera, no trains yet. I would not want to fool around with RER or metro and flights of stairs.

How much more expensive is a taxi?
My complaint with the shuttle was the dilly dally in getting me to my hotel.
Once I was staying in a hotel near Montparnasse and Raspail. My wife and I were the last 2 dropped off. The driver had one passenger who lived in the 15th and we made the grand tour of Paris. I think it took 2 hours or more from the time of my call to the shuttle service until I was at the hotel.

There always seems to be some problem with the shuttle. The last time, the driver could not understand that my last name, Brown, was on his list.
When I point it out to him, he pronounced it Bruin or something similar.
He finally let me on the van.

If the taxi is less than 15€ more, I would be tempted to take it.

The problem is that the algorithm for calculating taxi fare is complex. It is based on time, amount of luggage, number of passengers, and distance.

At least in Dublin I could negotiate the fare from the train station to the airport.

We took the Air France bus from Gare de Lyon to CDG just two days ago, and found it well worth the price (previously having taken the metro/RER). The fare was 11.50 Euros per person. Very comfortable ride, and it took only about 35 minutes, even in heavy traffic on the peripherique.

A taxi is closer to 40 Euros.

I've taken the Air France bus too. But mind you, that was 5+ years ago.

It was a pretty quick journey, little hassle and comfortable trip all round. It stopped right in front of my hotel in Etoile that time and so it was great.

However, this time round, I'm not staying near where the bus stops. It's near the RER B Line which is straight from CDG. Never taken the RER with luggage and its just me solo.

Would there be advice taking the RER with luggage? Any heavy lifting to anticipate due to no elevators and such?

I have only been to Paris twice and both times have used Taxi from CDG. This time (June) there are 4 of us and much more luggage, so opted for Parishuttle. I don't know when you are going but I will post about the experience upon our return (June 25).

A taxi will still be enough for you and cheaper than the shuttle. Just wait in the taxi line until a large enough vehicle becomes available. They are there.

For the two of us, Roissybus was easy and inexpensive. We took it to the Opera station and then took the metro a couple stops to near our hotel. It was easy with 1 roller bag each.

For a party of 4, I'd definately do a taxi.
