If it is the Hilton you won't be far from the 7th or Passy for that matter.

After staying in the 8th and 6th on previous trips, we have stayed in the 7th for the past 10 years. It gives more of the feel of a real neighborhood to me. We've stayed at a number of inexpensive hotels but they've all started upgrading with flat screen TVs and such. Combine that with the poor exchange rate for $ and we're paying a lot for a room this fall.

My daughter and I stayed in that area this past March. We loved it! Of course, it depends what you're looking for. But, for us, it was great. We were a very short walk from the Metro. There were restaurants nearby. It was quiet and we felt safe. Pretty much everything we needed!

Thanks to all for the extremely gracious replies! I just booked the room on Hotwire, and yes, it was the Hilton Paris on on Avenue De Saffren. We paid $119/night for our trip in June '08. Four nights including taxes/fees came to $510. The rack rates on the Hilton website are $670/night. Warmest regards to all of you!

Fantastic. Makes me want to go just for the hotel rate ... ;)

one thing of note for hotwire is that the really good deals (ie: a paris hotel, let alone the hilton, for US$510 for four nights) only works if you book a long way in advance. if you try within a month or two of your trip the rates will be fairly inline with expedia (owns hotwire)

JMWF - You are so right about hotwire. I scored on last year's trip to London just as I did with this trip to Paris. We had to book early due to the use of our frequent flier miles and childcare arrangements. The early bird gets the worm. I use hotwire frequently for San Francisco. I've found that you can get very decent deals in the off season too. I've booked just a few weeks in advance and have ended up with the Grand Hyatt or St. Francis on Union Square for extremely reasonable rates on several occasions. Now I feel that I can make better decisions with the assistance of betterbidding.com. What a cool site!
