Should we go on October?

Driving with children from Basel east until Neuschwanstein at the begining of October - will we encounter snow/ice on roads? Any extreme conditions except a little cold or better to visit other period of year? Will we see any colour fall leaves?

I thought of the following place to visit for a week:

Europe Park for 2-3 days

St gallen and appenzell

Konstantinos

Neuschwanstein

Rhine falls

Any other villages/places?

It is very unlikely that you will encounter extreme conditions early October. Did you look up average temperatures for those areas that time of the year?

October is not a bad time to travel. There can be some early snow in November but October is usually OK - although you have missed the nice weather and much of the harvest season (late season plum dishes, new wine, onion tart are all in September). There will be plenty of pumpkin (I think there is Erntedankfest, which is a thanks for the harvest, in early October, a smallish celebration). Leaves have already fallen and days are a bit shorter. 3 October is Tag der deutschen Einheit (German unity day). Shops will be closed and many cities will have a stage with live performances, which may or may not be of interest to you. This year is not a special anniversary (32 years).
