Should we bring insect repellent for Greece in September (tomorrow)?

I am packing right now for tomorrow's trip! We will be in Athens, Mykonos, Delos, Santorini, and back to Athens from September 10 to 19, will we need insect repellent?

What does the CDC website recommend?

Yes you do need to take mosquito repellant.

Yes, we are in Greece now - definitely bring repellent

There are currently no diseases carried by mosquitos in Greece, but they certainly are annoying in the evenings in some places. You won't need to use repellant in Athens, and mosquitos are not much of a problem on Santorini, but possibly on Mykonos. Repellant is available in Greece, of course, so you can buy some there if you don't bring it with you.

There are no mosquitos in the centre of Athens.....
while they are a big problem where i live in the north-east...
( next to a riding school)

I can't recall ever having a problem with them on islands you mentioned.. ( and i seem to attract them ..)
You can buy all sorts of repellents in Greece, so why taking it from home ?

I'm happy that clausar agrees with me! The islands that you will be going to are in the Cyclades group, which is very dry in summer, so generally mosquitos are not a problem. Some islands, e.g. Naxos, Paros, and Antiparos, have protected wetlands that are used by migratory birds, and mosquitos breed in those areas.

What you should bring with you, if you are from the US, is lots of sun cream, which is much cheaper there than on the Greek Islands. I always pack several bottles of Coppertone in my suitcase when going to Greece.
