Should I take my discman to Europe??
Hi. I'm going on a three month trip to Europe this summer with my sister. I'm debating whether or not I should take my discman with me. Please help!
I'm quite friendly and intend on trying to meet as many people as possible on my trip and I only plan to listen to it on the train (so it's not a means of escaping because of shyness or anything). I will be travelling by train quite extensively (therefore for many many hours!) and I think it could be really nice to have. Should I take it or is it better to leave it at home??
Any suggestions would be appreciated!
Thanks!

I don't mean to sound sarcastic, but I really think you can make that decision yourself. You've already said that you'll use it on the trains. So, the only question is: Will you have room in your luggage for it or not? If you can't decide this, how will you make the more important decisions about your trip?

Hi. Thanks for the response gb. I actually have my major plans set out, I'm just worrying about the details right now. Some things I'm wondering about taking my discman (from other people's experience/thoughts) are: Did you actually use it or was it annoying and just kept it at the bottom of your bag?, Too much to lug around?, Attraction for theives?, etc.
Again, not a huge deal, just thought some experience and advice couldn't hurt! Thanks again!
Kate

We spent two weeks traveling in England. It was my teenage children who used theirs. They carried it, and as many CD's as they could manage. Yes, they did use it. I don't recall it being any attraction to thieves. But then, we were in a rental car, and the girls only used in the car. I brought a Walkman radio. But, I didn't bring it for entertainment. I brought it when I wanted to ignore the moments when the girls bickering about "who has more room in the back seat". arguments.

If you love Music, and I guess you do!, I say take it! As you look out the train window, taking in the beautiful scenery with your favorite tunes playing in your ears.......well when you get home those songs will bring back the great memories, highlights of your adventure! Did you notice that some of the most memorial movies have some of the best sound tracks?..there is a reason for that!!

JOHN

I wasn't aware that people had to apologize or explain psychologically why it's okay to listen to music. One question you might ask yourself -- why did you buy it if it wasn't to listen to when traveling? Unless you've never owned one before, I agree that you ought to be able to decide for yourself whether it's worth the space and weight, that's a personal decision based on your own priorities and no one can decide for you.
