It might be a close call for some, but Amsterdam wins above any city in Brussels. It has culture, scenery, nightlife and its share of incredible restaurants. Amsterdam has the feel of charming quaint village in a thriving, creative metropolitan city. <BR> <BR>There are also many picturesque little villages very close to the city that are also worth seeing, and at the right time of year there are flowers everywhere. <BR> <BR>Amsterdam is also easy to reach and can be done inexpensively too. <BR> <BR> If you're looking for an inexpensive private place to stay in Amsterdam, <BR> let me know. Amsterdam, with its canals, is a more attractive city than Brussels in my opinion. The Grand Place in Brussels is a fascinating spectacle and the food is vastly superior in Belgium (one of the most highly developped cuisines in Europe). The beers in Belgium are the best in Europe. I would agree however with other people who suggested Bruges as a place to go to. why not land in Brussels and go there. With a car or by train, its very close and is one of the most amazing cities in europe, one of the leading cities of the middle ages frozen in time by the silting up of its port.

Hi, my wife and I have been to both. When she heard this post she said "Oh my, go to Holland". Absolutely!!! Amsterdam without a doubt. Not a question in my mind! Do it!

Carol, <BR>I would choose Belgium over Amsterdam, maybe that is just my preference. Amsterdam was ok when I was there, although I did find there to be many undesirable people and generally lots to avoid. I love Belgium. Brussels is one of my favorite cities in Europe once you take the time to get to know the city and its ins and outs. I found Ghent to be beautiful and a lot less touristy than Brugge, although Brugge is hugly popular and nice.
