Should I book tickets to the Coliseum in Advance?
We are traveling to Rome in late September and I was wondering if we should book tickets to the Coliseum in advance or is same day/on the spot purchasing doable? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks!

You're likely to encounter huge lines at the Colosseum waiting to buy tickets. If you're planning on picking up a tour once you get there then you can bypass the lines. If you don't want the tour I would book ahead. Do you have to specify a date/time for the tickets or are they useable any time. You wouldn't want to be there if it's raining hard so you may not want to lock yourself into a specific day.

To avoid the tourist crush on the day you plan to visit the Colosseum head towards the Palantine Hills just across the street and purchase your tickets there. It seems everyone heads to the Colosseum first but I found it quite convenient to do the Forum and the Hills first and then the Colosseum. If you think its too much walking for one day I think the tickets are good for two days. Can someone verify. I've always done the reverse in one full day.

Another option would be to join one of the many English speaking tours. There are usually people around trying to sell you a tour. On top of being able to skip through the line, the tour itself was interesting and only ended up being a few dollars more than the cost of the ticket. Otherwise, definitely head to the Palantine Hill ticket booth!

The tickets are now for the Forum (used to be free), the Palatine and the Colosseum and are good for two days. I know I read on another thread that the ticket booth at the Palatine has gotten more crowded since Rick Steves and others advise going there to get tickets. But still better than the line at the Colosseum I believe.
And, if you do go to the Palatine to buy your ticket it is well worth spending some time to tour that area.

Hi Everyone, My husband and I will be in Rome in the begining of November. Will there still be allot of crowds at the popular tourist areas like the Coliseum? And will it be cold? Thank You in advance!
