Should I avoid Sun & Monday in Provence?

I recently read that many shops and things are closed and shuttered in Provence on Sundays and Mondays. I'm planning to go to the Luberon region. I have also seen there are some farmers markets on those days. If I only have 2 days in that area, should I avoid going on Sun & Mon or does that apply to other regions?

Most places in France and Italy are quieter between Sunday lunch-time and Tuesday morning. In very small places you may find nothing open at all. So you are better off spending those days in a big town where something will be open, or staying on a farm ,where it won't matter as nothing happens anyway. The local tourist board sites should be able to tel you what attractions are open when. [also via-michelin.com]

Hi,

Monday is a very quiet day in much of Provence, but Sunday is OK for markets - very well-known one in L'Isle Sur La Sorgue & also a much smaller one in nearby Coustellet. But not much else going on as far as I know.

If I only had 2 days in Provence I would try to spend one of them in Aix on a Tuesday, Thursday or Saturday - spend the morning in the market and enjoy a lunch on the beautiful Cours Mirabeau.

Hey Doug -

Couldn't have said it better myself. If there is a more beautiful, classy small city anywhere else in the world, I've yet to find it...
