I wish I could afford business or first class seats, but they are often 5 times or more the cost of one coach seat, so I can't :( However, between my husband and I, we buy 3 seats, so there is one extra in the middle. Then the FA tries to seat someone there!!!

The authorities are considering changing the "standard weight" used to calculate the theoretical loading of the flight - affects stability etc.
This problem gets worse in small planes - the advice now is not to asuume a standard weight for planes carrying 7 or less as it could be unsafe. You could always use bumbags full of helium to fake your weigh-in but you would still present the same inertial problem to the flight. Ive always thought it crazy that those who check luggage pay the same as those who dont. I don't mind paying extra for someones excess corpulence as they can hardly leave it behind, but paying for the weight of their ridiculous baggage and its handling is just silly. Glad to see some airlines are now charging these freeloaders. |

Glad to see some airlines are now charging these freeloaders." You're not paying for them, though. There is a standard baggage allowance for each passenger which you are free to use. Those who bring extra pay extra, unlike those who weigh much more than average. Most people do need to bring luggage with them, and the weight limit is not that high at all. Therefore, if someone is bringing 'ridiculous' amounts, they are paying for the extra. Who are you to say it's 'ridiculous' anyway? Are people not entitled to bring luggage for long trips or even moving to another country? Not everyone just goes away for a weekend. |
who wants to watch t.v when you can log on and laugh your head off, you guys have a great sense of humor.

Price is now the determining factor in ticket purchasing. Any cost minimization idea will be considered by each airline. Tickets by weight may be unlawful or dicriminatory. Airlines may simply adjust prices to accommodate the extra load. Guess how long before Ryanair gives credit for underweight passengers.

If I've paid for a seat, then I want a whole seat, not part of one because some fat person needs one and a half! It does seem to be a good idea for people who can't fit in a seat to pay for, and get, 2 seats.
