David, that was a snide, totally uncalled for remark. Are you joining CS on his campaign to make sarcastic, belittling remarks about Americans whenever possible?>>>>>>>
It's just an observation old bean. To our eyes Americans dress strangely. Old people wear sports wear and training shoes. You wear odd hats. You walk down Oxford Street dressed for a trip to Everest. Then there's the whole shorts thing (In England only small boys and professional athletes wear shorts) THis seems odd to us. However we are used to your eccentricities as we see a lot of you, so that's what I mean about being past suprising. |
"The big deal is that trousers are usually warmer than shorts, and in the extremely hot weather that increasingly plagues not just the Sahara but also Europe, cool clothing is becoming unavoidable"
If you are so concerned about being cool why don't you go bare chested. As for long trousers not being cool clothing, unless you are into wearing heavy wool (or some of the nastier man made fibres) long trousers are as cool as shorts. They also have the little advantage of being very good protection against sun burn |
One wonders why all those Egyptian men, for example, don't wear shorts. Or perhaps it doesn't get hot in Egypt? Ditto India....etc. etc. But it matters not- what is cooler or more comfortable isn't the question.
Speaking of beside the point, I love how most people can't understand other people most of the time, but claim they have an inside track to what God does or doesn't care about. It's a moot point: maybe God doesn't care about what people wear to church, but the people who run these places might care, which is why I suspect Basil is asking. Ding! Ding! Ding! Round 851 on the Fodors board. Basil, I didn't get the impression that dress codes were enforced at the Seville cathedral, but it will all go for naught if one should happen to be enforced the day YOU visit. Your husband might want to consider those pants that come with zip-on/off legs, then he can vary between shorts/trousers without much difficulty. Bon voyage. |
