shortest route to Europe
I live in Tampa, Florida and have traveled to Europe and HATE the long flight. Does anyone know the shorted flight from any US city to any European Country??? THANKS IN ADVANCE
|
Hi Kim,
How long's the flight? I live in Cape Town and the flight is 11 hours direct and an extra couple if I have to go via Jo'burg and I HATE it too!!!! I can't sleep on the plane and spend the night walking around and wishing it was over. I really pity the poor Australians who have something like a 20 hr flight to Europe :-( Good luck with your next flight :-) |
Service now suspended but hopefully to re-start someday, the semi-scheduled flights from Nome to Anadyr probably qualify as the shortest.
If you mean transatlantic, then if you count Iceland as European, then flights there would be the shortest. If you don't count Iceland, then Boston-Shannon will be the winner. |
I'd guess it might be Boston to Shannon, Ireland at maybe about 5 hours; and to London in about 5-1/2.

Kim, one alternative to think about is flying to New York and taking a day flight. It's a lot different leaving in the morning and arriving in Europe maybe 7 hours or so later, but it is just evening there. You stay up fairly late, then go to bed, and you've had a short day. The next day -- no jet lag. I wish we could get those from Miami, but no -- have to do the overnight thing -- I think that's what makes it seem so long -- especially if you're not good at sleeping on the plane. And it makes for a very long first day in Europe.

I'm not sure I understand your question. The obvious shortest flight between US and any country in Europe (excluding Iceland) would be between Boston and Shannon, but how would you get to Boston from Tampa? Drive for 2 days? fly? If you fly you actually would spend more time on planes and airports than if you just did the direct BA flight from TPA to LHR.
Or is this just a theoretical question? You just want to know the actual shortest flight between US and any European country. In that case it would be Boston to Reykjavik, Iceland. |
Does it have to be a US city? How about St. Johns (NF) to London?
