Short weekend in Edinburgh
I will be in Edinburgh (my first time to Scotland) for a very short weekend in late June. I fly in from Dublin Friday evening and have a return flight on Sunday afternoon. I'm debating on whether to take a tour trip into the countryside on Saturday or just spend the entire weekend in the city. I realize it is a bit of a personal preference, but I was wondering what other travels have most enjoyed about Scotland.
Last year I spent a weekend in London and was able to do the London Eye and walk around Buckingham Palace the first night, do a double decker bus tour and Stonehenge on Saturday, and visited the Tower of London on Sunday before flying out. So, I do like see as many sites as possible, but I'm not sure if the day trips out of Edinburgh would be worth pre-empting more time in the city. Any advice? |
Hi talltraveler,
My first visit to Edinburgh was a short week (arrived Sunday afternoon, left Saturday morning), not a long weekend, but with just five full days in town, I did spend two of them out of town: a day trip to St Andrews and a day trip to see Hadrian's Wall (not actually in Scotland, but it's a strong association in my mind). The was my first visit. I've since made three more, with a definite plan for a return in 2014 (though trying to think of a way to also make a visit in 2013 :-) On each trip you can only see so much, so plan your trip and enjoy whatever you decide on for this first visit. Cheers! |
Edinburgh itself is so delightful and your time so short—won't you just want to explore the city?

I agree that you would do well to just enjoy Edinburgh.

I think Edinburgh too. If you email me, I'll send you a list of suggestions
