Short trip to Salzburg

I'll be going to Salzburg tomorrow for one night. What should I do and see? I'm not talking about downtown, the Schloss, Schnitzels, Mozartkugeln and the towns in the vicinity.

If you could stay for only one night and would have seen everything "touristy" before, what would you do in town? Where would you go?

Difficult?

We just walked around the town - even up to the fortress, but didn't go in. We peeked in the churches and walked through the cemetary. A walk through the Mirabell Gardens was also nice. We felt we "saw" the town that way.

Do you have kids with you? Ours really enjoyed nearby Hellbrunn Castle and its trick fountains.

I've been there already. I'm looking for something "new" and entertaining for a day. Did you see anything extraordinary, a show, theatre something worth going tomorrow? Otherwise it'll be the same stuff again...?

Have you seen the salt mines in Hallein?

My wife and I enjoyed a performance at the Marionetten Theater one rainy afternoon. We also found a guided tour of the Festspielhaus interesting because we got to take a look back stage.

Interestingly the tour started with our guide speaking both English and then German. After the second German rerun of the English version, the German speakers told her that English was sufficient.

Walk up the river path in the evening. Walk out onto the bridges and look back at the lit town. It's one of the most beautiful views anywhere.

Keep walking to the place that makes beer. I can't recall if it's called a brewery or something else. It's a good place to get a beer and dinner for a decent price but likely to be kind of dead midweek.

I didn't "do" the Stiegl Brewery, would have been nice too!
Far too many tourists in town.

Next time.
I can recommend the hotel. Room was 51€ at "Josef Brunauer Tagungs- und Stadthotel". Within walking distance (about 10min) from the Hauptbahnhof. 7 stops to downtown via OBus.
Room was very nice and clean, separate personal shower/toilet, small TV. Nice "eco" breakfast included with everything you would ever want. Balcony and nice garden area with a few sunbeds.

People were saying "Good Morning" to complete strangers. Polite and friendly. Just like at home (o.k. it actually was "at home" ;-) )
