short trip in Barcelona

I finally decided and booked what will be a short trip to Barcelona. I arrive early morning and will spend a day and a half alone in Barcelona. It will be in August.

What is the best way to get to Eixample from the airport?
Any good suggestion for a hotel in the 150-200 dollar price range - preferably with a pool?

We will probably go to a concert - any outdoor venues I should look into?

Eixample is a big area ...
Airport bus will get you to center of Barcelona ...Placa Catalunya .

Thanks for your answers. I am still no closer to a hotel booking but I have another question.

What beaches should we visit? Any quiet beaches around that we should visit?

Is it worth it to sleepover at Mont Serrat or just do a day trip?

I'm confused -- you have a day and a half in Barcelona and yet you are considering a day trip? You are going alone but want to know what concerts to attend and what beaches "we" should visit?

Sorry I will clarify...I will arrive a day and a half before my friend. Then we will be there for another 6 days together. I then have one day alone.

We would like to spend time at the beach (no seaside where I live), walk and enjoy the sites and finally take a couple of day trips.

That's a VERY different scenario than suggested by your original post.

Here's what I suggest: (a) Do some research to identify what you and your friend might most enjoy. Get a few good guidebooks (ALWAYS a worthy investment IME) or go to your local library. then (b) Come back with some clearer questions, and start a new thread when you do so, because many knowledgeable Fodorites might have been so misled by your original post that they won't check in again.

Barcelona and its surrounds are wonderful -- have fun planning your time there!

@kja - I think I will start a whole new thread. This is a vey last minute trip. I had to change my plans and I am just thrilled and relieved I can go. I have planned all my trips with the kind words and advice of my Fodorites friendsand I hope that they will chime in again. This is the first time I am going on a trip with such short notice - a far cry from the months of planning I usually do.

I think starting a new thread will do you well, because it should help people better understand the information you are seeking. Good luck!
