Short Trip from Freiburg to France, Italy or Switzerland... Help!

I am looking for a short (2-day) trip from the SouthWestern German town of Freiburg. Does anyone have any recommendations? I will be travelling by myself, and Switzerland, France and Italy all sound enticing. I can leave Thursday evening and need to return to a major international airport by Sunday evening. Help!

Cross over into France and take in Alsace for l2 days. The wine route is wonderful with lots of nice towns and villages. Great wine tasting, food, and ambiance.

I don't know what you'll be doing in Friburg or for how long. We were there for part of the day a few years ago and it was beautiful.

It's a university town and possibly that's why you're there.

Depending upon your reason for being there and for how long, you may have already gone to Monteux, Bern, Thun and even the Interlaken area.

If not all of these are great.

Basel is worth a visit. Go see the chair museum in Weil and the Fondation Beyeler on the edges of Basel. It could be included in a brief loop with the southern part of Alsace.

My suggestion would be to drive to Colmar FR, about 30 mi., overnight and tour the wine road next day. Back to Colmar for the night, next day drive to Titisee, in the Black Forest, walk around the see and back to Freiburg.

I second the advice to see Colmar, France about 30 minutes from Freiburg). Great museum (Unterlinden) and you can take a trolley around the town then wander wherever (like the Petit Venise) and stop in a cute cafe for wine. One of my nicest side trips from Germany.

What Michael said!

Don't miss the Swiss museum city Basel and the Fondation Beyeler in Riehen (suburb). There is a terrific new exhibit right now.
I plan to see it this weekend.
www.beyeler.com and the nearby Vitra Museum in Weil/Germany.

Colmar is a great idea -- you could also go down to the Berner Oberland in Switzerland. It's a 4-5 hour drive to Interlaken, but definitely worth the trip.

I agree with most of the suggestions, but you don't have to leave Germany. If you haven't experienced the Roman-Irish Bath in Baden Baden, you should give that a try.
