The only things cheap in Switzerland are:
- flowers
- liquor (from the store)
And even thats not very cheap. We lived in Zurich for years and people regularly drive to Germany to buy their groceries because of the lower cost, so that may give you a feel for the prices.
For less expensive clothing, try H&M and COOP-City , St Olivier brand.
Good luck!

Wait a minute. Yes, you can find good quality inexpensive clothes in Switzerland at Vogele. We've bought many things there; they're very well made, inexpensive and last for years. I still wear many of the tops I bought at Vogele for less than 10 euros each. My husband was in Basel last week-end and bought three shirts at the Vogele men's store for 12€ each.
And Vogele is a Swiss chain.

For women, the Bonita chain also sells good quality, inexpensive to moderate clothing. I bought a sweater at one of the Bonita stores this winter for 40€ and it's one of my favorite sweaters...I get loads of compliments on it.

The first two posts are simply not correct. I have gotten great clothes at stores in The Forum in Montreux. It's a small shopping mall right in the center of Montreux, on the main drag thru town. Downstairs is a large and inexpensive clothes store. I am fairly sure it is the same name chain that BTilke mentions above.

Hi swizz123,
In addition to suze's suggestion of the Forum, which has a lot of little stores, you could also go to the two big department stores in Vevey. These are across the street from the main station as you head toward the lake. I think one is a Manor, but I forget what the other one is --
Good luck!

And of course, there's the FoxTown outlet mall in Villeneuve.

Oh YES- In Vevey the Manor/Placette is a fantastic grocery store!!! It is pricier than the Migros but has amazing food (quiche, fresh squeeze juice, pastry wrapped pate, etc.)... and I did notice lots of shops within that mall too. Would be worth a trip (only 15 mins. from Montruex by train or bus).
I have also found cheap clothes around the streets of Vevey, don't have a specific store name but times when the shops pulled sale racks out onto the sidewalk (oops guess that won't help you much in winter!).
