shopping on Sunday in Barcelona

We will be arriving on a Sunday (11/09/08) in Barcelona. We are leaving on a cruise the next day. We are staying at the HOTEL APSIS ATRIUM PALACE on Gran Via de les Corts Catalanes and were wondering if we can find any place close by to purchase some wine to take on board the ship. Also will there be any restaurants open on Sunday. We know that most place close on Sundays. Many thanks for any help that you can provide. John

I'm sure you have already contacted your hotel regarding this. What did they say?

Have you checked with your cruiseline about bringing wine onboard? Most don't seem to allow it. El Corte Ingles at Placa Catalunya should be open. They have a grocery with a separate upscale wine/gourmet products shop in the basement.

Hi, we have shopped at the El Corte Ingles in the past. Wonderful store. According to their web-site, they are closed on Sundays. We were hoping to find a small grocery or convience type store open. Yes, we know the some cruise lines are tough on bringing wine onboard. We know how to get it onboard with no problems. This will be our 59th cruise. So we have past expierences on bring a little wine onboard.<Grin> Our hotel has not responded to our e-mail questions, yet. John

On sundays, supermarkets and also department stores like El Corte Inglés will be closed, but their chain of grocery/ convenience stores "OpenCor" will open from 8am to 2am also on sundays.
Maybe you can print this list of their stores in Barcelona, and ask your hotel which would be the nearest:

Otherwise, there are also the "7-11" type stores in gas stations.

Try some of the local Penedes, if you want to take a bit of Catalunya on board of your ship :-)
