shopping in the greek islands and dubrovnik

We are going on a cruise in Sept. and I would appreciate info about special things to look for in Athens, Olympia, Mykenos and Dubrovnik (not the usual touristy 'junk'). Also, are there any special bargains to be found and where?

I never find anything to buy when I'm on holiday.
When we were in Athens my friend bought 2 very nice plates for serving fish. There seemed to be a lot of plate shops around there and the merchandise wasnt too tourist junk!
I think the lace in Dubrovnik is quite nice but expensive -well some poor woman has spent months on making it!
I dont think Europe is a place for finding bargains

I just spent a week in Athens and took a day trip to the Island of Hydra. The key items in Athens are gold, silver, embrodery and pottery. However, while the shopkeepers will barter a little, know you prices going in.
I would recommend just enjoying the sun, beaches, sights and FOOD!
Public transport is easy to use, Parthenon is amazing and the theatre there is still in use! The cruise may not allow you enough time to take in a concert but if you have the time check it out.

Dubrovnik is known for their lace, but watch out for the ticky tacky shops that sell lace made in China. We bought a nice table runner down by the pier, the woman were making them right there. Also, Adriatic Coral jewelry was big. Pretty red to orange shades. Every store had some.

Thank you all for your information. Our time is limited at the mentioned sights, therefore I wanted to know ahead of time what to zero in on. The majority of the day will be spent sightseeing of course. This will leave very little time for shopping. So If I know where to look, I will not be waisting time...
