Shopping in Frankfurt - Calling all professional shoppers
 

With a day to kill in Frankfurt before catching a flight in the evening, can all the professional shoppers on the forum suggest which malls or shopping areas to visit.

Hm, I don't know whether you'd call me professional, but I do like a good shop. The main shopping street in Frankfurt is called the Zeil, and there are a number of shops and smallish shopping centres coming off this street, for several blocks. There are also a few department stores, the main one in my memory being Galeria Kaufhof, on the corner of the Zeil and the Hauptwache. The basement has a good food section. If you continue down the Hauptwache there are also a number of other shops which gradually peter out, and eventually you will see an interesting structure, the Eschenheimer Turm, which I think is the remains of a city gate. There is a cinema nearby that sometimes screens films in the original version (i.e., English). I imagine this could keep you busy for a day.

Yes, the Zeil is the place to shop. But what about Museums? Frankfurt has some excellent museums.

Yes the museums are good in Frankfurt, but just know that after running in and out of museums in Europe for two weeks, shopping is going to be the only thing I will feel like doing. (Well perhaps fit in one museum)

Shopping on the Zeil can be fun. The biggest mall there is "My Zeil". You can't miss it as it is made of glass triangles and has a huge hole in it.

The Zeil Gallerie is being renovated and many of the stores are closed. Next door is Kaufhof and a bit down the street is Karstadt.

Other malls in Frankfurt would be Nordwest Zentrum or Hessen Center.

For smaller, unique non-chain stores, with more individual fashions or creative items, go to the Schweizer Strasse in Sachsenhausen, or the Berger Strasse in Bornheim.
