Shopping hints- Florence and Rome

This is not virus related because I don't want to think about it right now...Ugh too late.
My main questions, I have limited time in Florence and a few days in Rome. I would like to buy some local goods of high quality (not name brand) and I am wondering if anyone has a special area or shop to go to. I am mainly interested in high quality leather goods and ceramics. Any suggestions? I also won't have private transportation and have kids in tow so super out of the places will be more difficult (read, not interested in trying to get to).

If you are looking for a high quality leather goods, then I would say definitely Florence! Though it is a tourist destination, there are lots of craft stores you can find while exploring the side streets that offer decent pricing. I won't say a bargain, but worth what you pay. My advise is check pricing and don't rush to buy from the first seller, as tags can vary from £5 to £55.

In Florence, definitely check out the Scuola del Cuoio (the school of leather), tucked in right behind the Santa Croce church. Great stuff there, and the artisans are right on site working on their goods. They will even engrave it for you on the spot. We bought a bunch of wallets and bags, really good quality and excellent prices because there's no real middleman.
