Shoes question
I'm leaving for Germany in 5 days and I have not bought any special walking shoes. I have some confortable sandals and sneakers but they're nothing special. My question is:do you think I'll find some good walking shoes to buy in Germany, at a reasonable price? Any idea on the prices?

Claudia yes you would but I would buy something and break it in before you leave....

Try some fleece lined hiking boots. I wore those all over Ireland last year and it worked out great.

Save yourself the effort. Go to sierratradingpost.com

They have Ecco's and Mephisto's as cheap as you'll find anywhere. I got some Meph. Naddo Boots retail $320 for $122. The thing about sneakers is that you won't want to wear them in the evening, so why not get a double duty black pair of walking shoes. Less to drag.

Yes - you'll find shoes GALORE in Germany. And generally, from my experience, the leather on shoes in Europe is often more supple than, say, the U.S., so wear-in time is not really that important (or, just go for supple-leather shoes). One of the best chains in Germany is Gortz, they have an incredible selection; for instance, a large Gortz in Hamburg has 3-4 stories. Prices are generally reasonable. But don't skimp on your feet... please!

Look for Rieker -- they are a very good walking/comfort German shoe line and are cheaper in Germany than US from what a friend told me.
I will second the recommendation to go to Sierratradingpost.com. My family lives in Germany and buying shoes there is no bargain - about the same as in the US (if you buy full price). That is why I buy Ecco and Mephisto at Sierra Trading.

Buy your comfy shoes on line, and save tons!!

Claudia, I just wear my regular sandals like I would wear here but take a couple of pairs so I can switch off. Fashion over function in my opinion.
