Perfect example. I love the Cole Haan's with Nike Air but only the styles with thick soles. I bought a pair of Munro's that felt great in the store but not so great walking in Spain. I've had to give my Mephistos away, felt good at first, but ...

Last month I brought my Cole Haans and my Adidas running shoes on a three-week trip. The running shoes were great for long walks, good support and plenty of cushioning. Walking up steep stairs and hills I didn't care that they weren't cute.

A question about Clarks. I wonder if anyone else has had problems with them falling apart. I had four or five pairs, mostly clogs and two pairs came apart where the top joins the footbed and there is no way to repair them. The same thing happened with a pair of sandals.

I always pack 2 pair of good walking shoes. Some of my Cole Haan's have the thick sole along with the Nike Air and those can go many miles. My others are lighter weight and I bring them for warmer weather. We avoid Europe in summer but I would pack a smart looking pair with good arch support.

I find that changing shoes helps keep my feet comfy.

Clarks have gone downhill in quality a lot over the past 5 years or so IMO. I no longer buy them as I find the leather hard and the craftsmanship lacking.

I have always either worn my trusty pair of Chaco's or whatever running shoes I was currently wearing. I wear size 13 and space is always a concern with taking to many pairs of shoes. But, recently a friend recommended a new brand, Kuru Footwear, has anyone else heard of them, (www.kurufootwear.com). I now have a pair and absolutely love them, I took them on a family trip to Seattle and walked around for two days and my feet didn't hurt by the end of the day like they have in the past with other shoes.

I agree about the Clarks, I think they have changed their manufacturing source or something...I used to love them but more and more I can't walk in them for long periods of time, or I get blisters. :(
