One of our daughters will be studying in Spain this fall. She wants to travel for a week before classes start. She doesn't want to haul all of her luggage around while she travels. She's flying into Frankfurt and then a week later beginning her studies in Valladolid, Spain. We've looked into shipping some items from the US but the price is fairly steep. Are there any other alternatives such as shipping her largest piece of luggage from Frankfurt to Valladolid after she arrives in Europe? Any help would be great.

I have traveled to Europe many times (often to live with a friend for the summer, and once to study in holland for a fall semester). When i went there to study, i planned on backpacking for 2 months prior to my classes beginning. So, I flew into amsterdam and dropped off my luggage at a friend's house for the 2 months that i backpacked. I can't imagine what your daughter is bringing, but if it takes up more than 2 huge bags and one carry one (what is permitted on international flights for free) than she is bringing too much. <BR> <BR>I once shipped some stuff from Florida to Holland and i did it by boat (cheaper) and it took 3 months.

Thanks for the response. I can see that my initial question didn't give enough details. She is only going to have two bags: a large roll-around duffel bag and a large backpack. She can travel for a week without the roll-around duffel bag and would like to either leave it somewhere or ship it from Frankfurt to Spain. Her problem is that she won't be coming back to Frankfurt so leaving it there presents some problems so she is interested in shipping it. You're right about shipping from the US. The post office said that shipping by land could be up to three months. Shipping by air is fairly expense. We're looking for additional options that might save her (or us) some $.

Have you looked into shipping by UPS or FedEx so it arrives in Spain about the time she does? Still expensive, but probably less than USPS or air freight.

This used to work, and it probably still does: <BR>If you have a train pass, or a point-to-point ticket for a destination, you can send your bags from any train station to that destination. They're held at the train station in baggage until you pick them up (I've done this in France, and Belgium).

I've done what Elvira has: shipped boxes, luggage, from one city to another's train station's "Left Luggage" area. Worked beautifully.
