Shipping bags home

We are doing a transatlantic cruise to Rome. When we get there we'd like to ship our ship clothing home so we don't have to lug them around while touring. It would be a medium size suitcase. Is there a reasonable way to do this for a reasonable price? No rush getting them home.
Thanks.

The Italian post office used to have a way of shipping things by slow boat, but they don't have that any more. I don't know of a cheap way to ship things. Are you leaving from Rome? It might be cheaper to leave your bag in storage for the time you're touring.

What's a reasonable price in your view? I agree with bvlenci that it might be cheaper to store the bag somewhere, but you can calculate what UPS would charge:

I have no doubt there's a parcel service that can deliver the suitcase from Rome to your hotel in Milan to store for your arrival. Then just take it home with you. Ask the hotels for specifics.

Yes I thought that might work. I'll check into it.
Thanks,
Rob

Rob, four years ago, we mailed a 12 X 6 X 5-inch box home from Ferrara.... It cost almost 75€. If you can do the parcel service, I'd opt for that because I doubt the cost would be anything near what the post would cost.

If you're taking the train to Milan, Trenitalia has a service where they'll pick up your bag at the starting point and deliver it to your hotel in another city where you're traveling by train. I don't know if they'd hold it for a week (as an example), but they do say the delivery can take three or four days. You might be able to arrange for your hotel in Milan to hold it until your arrival.

I can't find a page in English that describes the service, but you can paste the following URL into translate.google.com .

Addendum: You would have to have your tickets to show the courier when they pick up your bags. It's only valid if you have tickets on a Frecciarossa train. It doesn't say the delivery has to be in the same city to which you're traveling by train; in fact, either this or the brochure they mention on the page, said that the bags could be delivered almost anywhere in Italy.

They also say that you can arrange for delayed delivery, but I don't know how much they would be willing to delay it.

My suggestion, which the Trenitalia service seems to address perfectly, was intended to include having the destination hotel (Milan) hold it until arrival. I don't ever recall having a hotel say no to a request to hold a piece of luggage while I went off with a small pack, for instance, and this is just a variation on that theme. I don't think I'd want to take a chance on delaying delivery. This is a very useful piece of information bvlenci.

Unfortunately we are staying in an apartment in Milan. Guess we will take a small bag suitcase, a medium suitcase and a couple carry bags and schlep them around.
Thanks for the advice and suggestions
