Shelbourne or Westbury in Dublin?
First time in Dublin in late May. I have 2 nights before a meeting. Was proposed 2 hotels by travel - Shelbourne or Westbury. Any recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Also, any off the beaten path recommendations for things to do on a weekend would be great (outside the typical list).
Thanks! |
Have not stayed at the Shelbourne - but have the Westbury twice. A very traditional older hotel with large rooms and a great location right off Grafton St. We loved staying there - service and breakfast were great!

Both hotels are very central, the Shelbourne on St Stephen's Green and the Westbury on a small street just off Grafton St.
Both hotels are in the luxury bracket, offering similar levels of service. The Shelbourne perhaps suffers a little from its popularity - making it difficult at times for residents to avail of the seating in the public areas on the ground floor during the daytime. As the hotels are quite close together, I would suggest trying whichever hotel you opt not to stay in for afternoon tea, so you can try out both places while in Dublin. |
St, Stephens Green or Grafton St?? St Stephens Green.
The hopper bus gets you out and about round the city, Howth has a cottage/fishermans market on a Sunday http://www.flavoursoffingal.ie/inter...rmers-markets/. Take the Dart to Bray for a walk up Bray Head and back to Dublin from Greystones http://www.wicklowwalks.com/bray-cliff-walk. Iveagh Gardens is off the tourist radar as are a few other items under the care of heritage Ireland http://www.heritageireland.ie/en/Dub...IveaghGardens/ |
Thanks all for your feedback!
