I've done some more trawling myself, now, and they seem to have hooked someone but not completed the deal. they are talking about £6m+ instead of the £10m they were looking for, and they think it won't happen till the end of the year. The guy is described as "an American billionaire who collects landscapes"<BR><BR>Various varieties of conservation bodies tried to buy it, but none could go to McLeod's price. At least Scots law keeps it open to the public. Look on the bright side.

That Sheila has good suggestions, but I add my own... Kirkcudbright, and particularly the Masonic Arms pub... Wigtown, the booktown, and Logan Royal Botanical Gardens... we also loved Stac Polly restaurant in Edinburgh!... all things Scots are fine with us!
