Shannon River Ferry timetable

How often does the ferry leave Killimer traveling to Tarbert? Is the ferry timetable reliable? We will be going from Ennis to Dingle on a Thursday morning and have been told this is the fastest way, vs going thru Limerick. What travel time can we expect traveling from Ennis to Dingle? I truly appreciate all the help we have been getting planning this once in a life time trip. 5 1/2 weeks and counting!

I just did this. I think the ferry runs every half hour. We waited about 1 minutes to board and then it was a 20 minutes crossing. We did in July. As for driving time I can't answer as we didn't go to Ennis. The Dingle Peninsula is stunning.

You will find the timetables and fares here:

From Ennis, it may not be that much faster than going through Limerick -- it's more an alternative for the possible traffic jams.

For a very tight estimate on driving times, you can check viamichelin.com . I would add 30 minutes for possible delays in Limerick during the morning rush hours to get a realistic figure.

Thanks Chevre and Cowboy for your help. I think the ferry ride will be a very nice addition to our itenerary. We don't want to experience rush hour traffic on our vacation, we do enough of that at home. becky

The ferry is a pleasant addition to the trip. Forces you to actually relax a bit, get out of the car, and enjoy the scenery a little.

If memory serves, the trip from Dingle to Ennis took the better part of an afternoon - maybe about 3 hours. So I would guess that it's close to that in the other direction - maybe longer depending on route (i.e. via the Connor Pass where you will want to stop and take in the scenery.)
