Shampoo in hotels in Italy?
 

I assure you, this is NOT a troll question! On past trips to Europe, I traveled strictly the budget/hostel route... this time, I'm able to spend a bit more, have hotels booked in Italy for an average of US $100-150 a night. Do hotels in this range usually supply shampoo/conditioner? YES, I know, I could call them individually -- but I know we have a very cultured bunch here! And YES, I'm bringing some just in case... but I'm trying to pack super-light, for a change. <BR>Thanks for your (serious!) suggestions!

I always travel with my own travel size as you can get shapoo...conditioner are less probable...but sometimes they are really bad ones too...Not worth worrying about.

Yes, they supply shampoo. However, many of them don't offer shampoo in little travel size bottles. They put them in little plastic packets (1-time use only). While in Italy, I stayed at four hotels in that price range. 2 offered shampoo in those little packets, 1 offered shampoo in a little bottle, and the last didn't provide any shampoo (Antica Locanda dei Mercanti in Milan).

What is so difficult about putting some shampoo in a small bottle (or buy a small size shampoo & conditioner, all drug stores sell them) and taking it with you? I cannot believe that anyone seriously considers this a hardship. I doubt very much if a 3 oz bottle of shampoo is going to change your luggage weight all that much. Even two 3 oz bottles! Even adding in a little conditioner, you are not going to be all stooped over carrying this load.<BR>

Diane, don't hesitate to ask your hotel.<BR>As said, shampoo is more likely than condiitoner, but each hotel provides different combinations of things.<BR>For example, I once got a little sewing kit,soap, and body lotion, but no shampoo.

Many hotels in the (ahem!) "less expensive" range (i.e. my range) do not have conditioner and, sometimes not even shampoo, on offer. They always have soap but sometimes quite harsh. When I used to go to better hotels on business (i.e. your range of $100-$150) they did, almost without exception, have those things and sometimes great stuff like small hand lotions and sewing kits. <BR><BR>I bring my own soap, shampoo and conditioner as well as(light, disposable)washcloths, which as you will have read by now, are considered far too intimate an item to be on offer in a hotel by Italian standards, as inappropriate as underwear would be in a Holiday Inn. And, YES, before the Posting Police jump on me, there are exceptions to the "no wascloth" rule, but be safe, Diane...BYOW

thanks for the info on the washcloths, Lynn -- I had no idea! <BR><BR>And xx, (snide person) -- the reason I was asking was because I was deciding between bringing large or small bottles of the stuff with me -- so just chill! As I mentioned, I tend to overpack, and am doing everything possible to prevent that this time. As you all know, every little bit adds up! <BR><BR>I met a guy once who was biking around India -- he cut the handle off his toothbrush to lighten the load a bit! Really, EVERY LITTLE BIT HELPS. (after all, I have to save space for those fine Italian shoes...)

They will usually have something. Bring your small sizes and if they don't, you can buy some there. It will be fun to try a new, local brand.

They have pretty much all of the same brands that we have here in the US, so if your small supply runs out and none is provided, a few EU will get the job done.

i did stay at the Locanda dei Mercanti and they did provide shampoo and very good shower foam. <BR>i have still some with me ....

I only recall the hotel in San G. offering shampoo. I collected the tiny samples that get left on your front door knob (shampoos and shower soap) beacuse they were soft-sided and very small. They packed well.
