Shakespear Globe Theatre
 

Could you tell me whether plays are held at the new shakespear globe theatre between the 23/4/01 and the 4/5/01. I will be visiting London during this time and would like to see one of Shakespear's plays at the Globe. Also, could you tell me how to get there and from where I can buy tickets.

Apparently there are no performances of Shakespeare plays during the dates you seek. The website - - http://www.shakespeares-globe.org/home.htm - - says: <BR> <BR>"The theatre season runs from May to September 2001 and features King Lear, Macbeth, Cymbeline and a Kyogen Comedy of Errors and many special events. In advance of the theatre season itself, Shakespeare's Globe welcomes back Umabatha, the Zulu Macbeth." <BR> <BR>King Lear starts May 12. <BR> <BR>Apparently, the Globe has now contracted all ticketing out to Ticketmaster. <BR> <BR>Best wishes, <BR> <BR>Rex <BR>

Even if there is not a play on during your time in London, the Globe is worth the trip. The tour guides are young, enthusiastic, and very knowledgable. There is also a very good exhibition of the reconstruction and theater artifacts icluded with your admission price. While on that side of the river, Southwark Cath, is also worth a visit. We had lunch at Vinopolis, which is built into some old railway arches, reat food, superior wine shop and they also have a wine tour which unfortuately we didn't have time for that day. I can't remember the name of the tube station that you use, should be easy to find out though, then it was just a short walk across Southwark Bridge and down some stairs and there you are. We had walked over from Temple Bar so I am sorry I can't be much help on the name of the station.
