Seville to Nerja via Arcos, Rhonda?

We will spend 4 nights in Seville then we have 2 days to get to Nerja. I'm looking for suggestions as to the best route to take to drive through the white hill towns of possibly Jerez, Arcos and Rhonda and where best to stay overight. Also will 2 days be enough time in the white hill towns? We're slow travellers - on this 18 day trip, we're spending 4 nights in Barcelona, 4 nights in Seville and a week in Nerja.

I loved Ronda, though i think the term white hill town may apply more to Arcos de la Frontera and not Ronda or Jerez - large towns that are not all white.

I like Jerez because of the sherry (an English corruption of the word Jerez) houses' tours and the Spanish Riding School horse exhibiton show (name?) - but as a town nice but no Ronda. Ronda has a gorge running right thru it so it's physically 'gorgeous'.

I took the bus from Jerez de la Frontera to Ronda via Arcos and several classic white hill towns - Arcos seemed very small - good for one night or as a base i guess but the landscape in between seemed tediously desolate. But i didn't drive or set my own itinerary.

I think we can drive to Rhonda from Nerja possibly as a daytrip.

I don't know anything about Nerja but a day trip in Ronda would be just fine - small enough and few major sights - the town itself and its dramatic setting to me was the best thing.

Yes, a daytrip from Nerja to Ronda is very well possible.
Arcos is a lovely place to stay (try the Parador, it's in a lovely location). From there you can drive (part of) the Ruta de los Pueblos Blancos. As a matter of fact Ronda is the final point of the Ruta.

thanks Bob and thanks for the excellent site Myriam. Have you travelled the Ruta?

Lily, Yes we have traveled the Ruta. We split the traject in two legs and did the one part 10 or so years ago, the second part two years later. It's really beautiful!

hi, Lily,

I'll second the Parador at Arcos, absolutely lovely. La Casa Grande (a budget choice a few steps up the hill) is where we stayed and thoroughly enjoyed it. We drove from Seville to Granada via Arcos. It was a welcome "white hill town" break between the two cities. Do be careful driving the narrow streets near the top in Arcos, if you decide to go. We had to fold the sideview mirrors in a few times :-) to get thru the arches.

enjoy,
