Seville to Granada...or not?
My husband and I have planned for 6 days in Seville (Saturday through Thursday). Our plan is to then fly from Seville to Marrakech on Friday. We could take a couple days from Seville to spend a couple of nights in Granada but we have to be back in Seville again on Thursday night to catch our AM flight to Marrakech on Friday. Not sure if its worth all the checking in/out of hotels to go between Seville and Granada and back to Seville again. Does this seem worth it? Or should we just stay in Seville and be content with a day trip to Cordoba or somewhere else closer? What would you do?
Day 1 - Fly LAX to Seville Day 2 - Seville (jet lag day) Day 3 - Seville Day 4 - AM train to Granada Day 5 - Granada Day 6 - AM train to Seville Day 7 - Seville ****************** Day 8 - AM flight to Marrakech Day 9 - Marrakech Day 10 - Driver to Quarzazate Day 11 - Driver to Merzouga, camel ride and overnight in tents Day 12 - Driver to Fes ****************** Day 13 - AM flight to Alicante, drive to some coastal town (any ideas?) Day 14 - Coastal town? Day 15 - Drive to Valencia Day 16 - Valencia Day 17 - Valencia Day 18 - Fly Home |
Of course there is more to Granada than the Alhambra but it is Granada's biggest drawcard (and justifiably so). In many ways it depends on how much you want to see the Alhambra and the Generalife verus a more relaxing time in Seville.
If you do decide to go to Granada, I suggest travelling there immediately upon arrival in Seville rather than break up your stay. You can journey by either bus or train (I preferred the train). You could then spend nights 1/2/3 in Granada and 4/5/6/7 in Seville. Cordoba is worth seeing if you decide to stay in Seville, especially in Spring when many courtyard is filled with flowers. |
You know...I hadn't thought of heading off to Granada directly from our flight into Seville. That sounds like a very good option! See, this is why I posted because I knew someone had to see something I wasn't seeing! Thanks!

How are you getting to Seville from LA? If you are changing plane in Madrid, you can fly to Granada instead of Seville, and then after a few nights, travel to Seville by bus or train. This avoids having to backtrack Seville - Granada, a journey of about 3-4 hours.

Another option - go to Granada on the way back.
Drive from Alicante. Stay in Granada a couple of days - well worth it. Then on to Valencia. I thought Valencia had little to recommend it. |
To go all the way to Andalucia and miss Granada and the Alhambra would be unimaginable to me. Spend one or two nights there. I would also put Morroco first because Spain will seem like paradise after Morroco.

Alec...if our flight plans change and we find ourselves using our American miles, we will for sure consider this option. But for now we're looking at a schedule which flies to Seville through Lisbon using some United/Continental miles.
Margo...Driving from Alicante to Granada and then back to Valencia sounds like a lot of driving. And while I'm sure Valencia isn't highly recommended, it IS our surname and therefore not optional. It will also be where we get many of our souvenirs so placing it at the end of our trip helps us to avoid lugging extra things around. Egbert...One of the reasons I put Morocco in the middle of the trip is because of the flights from Seville to Marrakech and then Fes to Alicante...on those specific days too. It helps us jump that Costa del Sol to Coast Brava area without too much wasted time. Thank you all for your input! |
