Seville parking
Hi; We have a car and our hotel suggested parking at 'Plaza Neuva Parking. We have driven in Sevile before and understand how the narrow, one way streets make it very difficult. My thought is to park at the airport and take the bus to Avenida del Cid. The hotel, Alminar, suggested it was then a 10 minute walk to the hotel. The 'Plaza' was a 5 minute walk, so there is not much difference in walk time. But, by the time it takes to exit the garage, it's probably 15 minutes to the hotel. Does parking at the airport seem like the best soution? Thanks iris1745/dick

Hi; Any advice? Thanks iris1745/dick

Depends on the airport's layout in Sevilla, which I do not know.
If the parking lots are close to the bus stop for going downtown it may be a good idea. If you have to take a shuttle bus from the car park to the terminal building, and then the airport bus into town it may become more and more of a hassle. It may also depend from where you will be approaching Sevilla. Would not make much sense, IMO, to go across town if you arrived from the West (Huelva/Portugal) just to get to the airport parking lots. For convenient parking in town, I liked the underground car park on Paseo Colon, the wide street along the river (near the bull ring). No driving on narrow streets required to get there. I think it may also only be a 10 min walk to your hotel from there. Costwise, I think the airport vs. downtown car parks are more or less the same, around €12 per day. But maybe/ hopefully some locals have better ideas still to come.. |
There are several underground and surface car parks in Seville, and often a hotel without own parking has an arrangement with one of them to give a discount on charges, by stamping the ticket at hotel reception.
It's always worth following the hotel's advice, as they know the lie of the land and what is most convenient for their guests. |
Iris,
Although I just hate, hate, hate driving in downtown Sevilla, I agree with Alec that it may probably be more economical and less time-consuming in the long run to go with the parking garage suggested by the Hotel Alminar, if you can find your way to the Plaza Nueva parking garage (or let viamichelin.com guide you). And as Alec says, the hotel most likely has a negotiated rate with the Plaza Nueva garage for its guests. But if you don't feel comfortable driving into town at all and want to avoid all hassle, and if you're coming into Seville from the east (Granada), northeast (Madrid-Córdoba) or south (Ronda, Cádiz and take the ring road, SE 30, around to the A4 east), you could just leave your car parked at the airport. The Seville airport is rather small and the parking lots not far from the bus stop. The Seville airport web page indicates that parking from 1-4 days costs 14.40 per day, then for 5 or more days, the daily cost is 11.45. Taxis from the airport to downtown operate on a flat fee, or you can take the airport to downtown bus for 2.5 euros, then walk those 10 min. to the hotel. |
Hi Cowboy, Alex and Maribel; We had driven Seville before. While hopelessly lost, we had fun. I think my main concern is if the parking garage is full. We arrive on a working day, Monday. That would be very interesting looking for another garage. As for the airport, we will be comming south on the N630. I think the airport is north of the city, so that will be a good option. We will just have carry-ons, so the bus would work. My son-in-law will have his GPS and will probably want to experiment in the city. We shall see. Thanks much iris1745/dick

GPS sounds good.
But you can also go to Google maps, and already "test drive" the routing to Plaza Nueva.. they have Sevilla in "street view mode" now.. |
Great; Thanks cowboy. Will check Google maps. I think the problem with GPS is they can't differentiate 'one way streets'?? iris1745/dick

I think I found the garage near Plaza Nueva.
You can try Google maps with destination: Sevilla, Calle Albareda 16 If you change to street view and turn until you face North, you look right into the entrance of the garage. Still had spaces left when the pic was taken :-) |
If you decide on the Plaza Nueva garage, you can print out driving directions to it from www.viamichelin.com.

Thanks Cowboy and Maribel; Now only if you were all in Seville April 20th, 21st or 22nd iris1745/dick

As far as I recall, you can drive to Plaza Nueva avoiding narrow streets, so you shoudn't have to worry.
