Sevillanas in Sevilla
An SIL is going to Sevilla for Semana Santa. Last time she was in Sevilla, about three years ago, she could not anywhere to dance Sevillanas in Sevilla. It used to be very popular but she had trouble finding a place.
Does anyone know where they can be found? Thank you in advance for your responses. |
Sevillanas are lighthearted, happy music, not appropriate for Semana Santa. She should attend the Feria de Abril to find this music, dancing.
|
She is able to dance this? And wants to find a place to dance it? I know some flamenco schools teach it but don't think they have single drop-in classes, not sure. It's mainly done during festivals like Feria de Abril, not holy week as part of religious events.
They do it at some flamenco bars, like this one in Triana (see a photo down the page of someone doing it there) http://www.sevilla5.com/activities/f...o/anselma.html |
She might want to check Casa Anselma, C/Pagés del Corro, Triana.
"One of the best known bars of the Triana flamenco scene where Sevillanas is common." |
Dance sevillanas during semana santa in Sevilla is the strangest thing I´ve everd heard.
Sevillanos tend to be very strict and traditionals so they celebrate Semana Santa and the death of Jesuscristo and two weeks later they start the Feria and sevillanas 24/7 in el Real de la Feria. |
Thank you all for your responses. I will pass them along to my SIL.
She has been studying flamenco for many years, which for her is a creative art form, and one she derives a great deal of pleasure. |
MY SIL also informed me, she will be in Sevilla for the two weeks following Semana Santa as well.
|
The Feria takes place April 12 to 17. Hope she can stay that long.
|
She will just miss it.
