Sevilla to Malaga by car. Which Route?
 

Will be driving from Sevilla to Malaga next week. Michelin gives 3 routes. 1.the shortest in time is a northern route that heads about due east to Lora de Estepa then curves into Malaga. 2. Heads diagonally and goes thru Ronda. 3. Is the longest but looks the most interesting via Cadiz,Gibralter and Marbella. I have all day to get to Malaga so time is not a big problem. But am worried about roadways and difficult driving. If we don't go thru Ronda on way to Malaga we will make a day trip to Ronda and Marbella from Malaga. Anyone want to give advice? Thanks

I wouldn't use the route which passes to Cadiz, Gibralter, etc.. This is very, very long. There's a very direct route which goes there but I don't know if this passes with Ronda or not.

Ronda route. Actually it makes great sense to RON in Ronda on the way to Malaga. Actually 2 nights in Ronda then head for Malaga. Ronda has so much more appeal than Malaga. Visit the oldest bull ring in Spain and the Parador next door. Another great place for lunch if I look it up. The road between Ronda and Malaga is a lot of switchbacks which I would recommend you only negotiate once. Don't get me wrong, the roadway is great, the driving strenuous. IMHO, Spain has the best roads of any country I have visited. Don't forget Arcos de la Frontera, visit the Parador only if you know how to drive very well.
Unfortunately it sounds like you're already booked in Malaga, hopefully at Parador Malaga Gibralfaro! Enjoy.

Thanks, Blackduff. Michelin shows the route by way of Cadiz as about 5 1/2 hour and by way of Ronda about 3 hours. The 5 hours does not bother me. I'm from Texas and 5 hours is just from one end of my ranch to the other (Just kidding). But to us thats really not a long drive if its worthwhile. But I am not used to mountainous and switchback driving. I intend to see Ronda as a day trip if I dont stop on my way to Malaga.

if you do not want to drive the bad curves.. then you can backtrack a bit to A382 and go east to antequera after ronda, and then down to malaga.

the cadiz route is MUCH further, but if you use that to see something, not bad idea either.

otherwise.. you can take public transportation ROUNDTRIP from málaga and forget the driving.

seems logical to see it on your way there, and even spend an evening if you have the option still open.

In Sevilla take the A92 to Antequera, then further on the A45 (N331) to Malaga. Quick and easy.

I used to take the A382 towards Gibralter. You can find the A382 near Jerez.

When you hit to Gibralter, just head up the coast towards Malaga, etc..

When you're still driving on the A382, there's a little pueblo called Los Barrios. This is about thirty minutes before the coastal roads. See if you can find a telephone for this restaurant. This is an old farm and it's run by two Englishman. It's called "Anne Bell's Herb Farm". This was great, if you can get into the restaurant. On weekdays it was limited to one group and they pamper the guests 130%. We had a leg of lamb, good Spanish wines, Spanish brandys, cigars, etc.. What a feast. If you get a chance, it's worth taking the time.

Thanks, friends. I will take the route thru Ronda. It looks like Route A376 goes all the way to just outside Marbella, then up the coast to Malaga. It should be a good route and since I wanted to go to Ronda anyway it would be best to stop on the way. If I get nervous about switchbacks or the roads I'll just close my eyes.
