Sevilla to Granada - via train or bus?

Okay, my usually opinionated guidebooks don't seem to have an opinion on which mode of transporation is preferable for this journey (one-way.)

Renfe (train) shows travel times of just under 3 hours, with fares at 17E. Continental-auto.es (bus) shows travel times virtually identical, with fares at 15.43E. I'm inclined to take the train unless the bus is lots more scenic and/or will get me closer to the center.

I think the train is always much more comfortable than a bus. The train station is close enough to the main tourist center to walk to with luggage but it was maybe a 15 minute walk so I did see alot of people finding taxis.

Hi Lesli,
I always tell visitors not to be reluctant to take busses in Spain, as they're very safe, comfortable, pleasant and reliable (plus very inexpenive), but in this case the Granada bus station is 2 km. to the west of the city center, on Carretera Jaen. From there you'd need to take city bus #3 to the Gran Via.
So, you may want to take the train to get in closer. But you can also take bus 11 from the train station to the Gran Via if you don't want to walk or taxi.

I pretty much always choose trains over buses. First, I really enjoy trains and find them more comfortable than buses. I have found that trains tend to have more leg room. Second, I get motion sickness on buses but not on trains.

Anne

Thanks for the responses all, especially Maribel. The fact that the bus station is *less* conveniently located is just the sort of info I was seeking. Train it is!

Earlier message re the remoteness of the Granada bus station from town is on target. The train station is much closer in and that is the better choice.
