sevilla-marbella route
We are driving from Madrid to Marbella in June. We would like to make a stop in Sevilla for a few days. I have my route mapped out from Madrid to Sevilla but am wondering which way to drive from Sevilla to Marbella. We could drive the longer route that would take us through Jerez and along the coast or we could take the faster route inland through Antequera...any suggestions? Which is the "easier" drive and which is prettier? Is it worth the extra 2 hrs. driving to take the coastal route? Thanks and cheers!

We drove from Marbella to Sevilla via Malaga, Antequera, Osua, El Arahal. This is a highway with little traffic.
On our way back we took the A376 via Utrera, El Coronil, Algodonales and Ronda. From Ronda to Marbella the road is a bit windy but the scenery is much more beautiful than along the highway.
If you have some time left, I would recommend to drive from Sevilla to Arcos de la Frontera (one of the white villages) to spend half a day or so. In Sevilla take the A4/E5 in the direction of Jerez and drive until Las Cabezas de San Juan, then further on the A371 in the direction of Villamartín. 10 km before Villamartín you drive to the right on the A393 upto Arcos (or you drive to Villamartín and take the A382 to Arcos).
Cannot suggest you re the coastal route but I think it is more than 2 hrs driving extra.

Sorry Myriam but you lost me! Are you suggesting we stop at Arcos on our way from Seville to Marbella? Or are you suggesting we go the route you went from Marbella to Seville only in reverse? I guess I need to pick up a good map!

Just for your information, a good map would be Michelin no. 446 - Andalucía/Costa del Sol.

I think I did not make myself very clear. Sorry!
What I suggested was to stop at Arcos de la Frontera on your way from Sevilla to Marbella. Therefore take the road I described (paragraph "In Sevilla take the A4/E5 ...") and when you're done in Arcos take the A382 in the direction of Villamartín. Just keep following this A382 through Algodonales, Ronda upto Mabella. Very scenic drive.
Allow at least half a day to explore Arcos.
You can see the map on www.viamichelin.com (in English), click "maps", type any of the cities in the textbox, choose "Spain" for country, choose your map size and then click on "result". You can narrow down and zoom as much as you like.

Thanks very much Myriam. Looked at the Michelin website and it's very clear now. I will definitely take this route.
