Don't rent a car until you are ready to leave Sevilla.

Generally, I would recommend that if you want to visit the Alhambra from Sevilla, then you should plan on spending the night in Granada. It's not a good day trip by car or train.

I agree with previous poster, as part of the charm is looking at the Alhambra from Albaicin neighborhood, and you'll miss it. Though Alhambra is unique, the Seville Alcazar has very similar architectural features, as it was built by Granada artisans rented to the Spanish king Pedro. I think this will suffice you for this trip.

With 3 days, I would probably stay in Seville. The Alcazar in Seville is similar to Granada's Alhambra in many ways, although not as spectacular. It is however more colorful, since more of the wall painting is still in place. You won't be disappointed with the Alcazar, and Seville is a wonderful city.

Having been to both I agree with the above, especially the idea that you'd probably want to do an overnight for the Alhambra at a minimum.

I also agree with Zootsi. You will see a LOT of the same stuff, particularly the bare room interior decorations, at the Alcazar, that you would see inside the Alhambra.

I'm not saying that both aren't worth it but with only three days I would stay in Seville.
